This Day That Age
A request to continue the recurring grant of rupees one lakh given by the Union Government to the Cancer Institute at Madras run by the Indian Women’s Association was made by several members at a meeting of the standing committee of the Congress Parliamentary Party in New Delhi on February 28. The institute is the only one in the country which provides cobalt X-ray treatment for cancer and has been sanctioned a non-recurring grant by the Government towards equipment. The request for continuing the recurring grant in the current year also is to help the institute, which may find it difficult to pay the staff of its research department if such financial help was not available. Members of the party paid a tribute to the work done by the association, especially the research workers.
