A happy trio from Kent

Bangalore: After a fortnight of grappling with the intricacies of spin at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, the Kent trio of James Treadwell, Rob Ferley and Dan Stickels are all set to return to England.

The players were training in Bangalore as part of a camp conducted by the Mumbai-based Global Cricket Academy (GCA).

“I have learnt a lot over the last two weeks and with the kind of passion cricket generates here, India is the best place to train and learn. I had come for a similar camp in Mumbai about two years back and I look forward to returning,” said Ferley.

GCA head coach Umesh Patwal said: “The camp was all about enhancing the expertise of these players with regard to either playing spin or bowling spin. For instance among these three, Treadwell is an off-spinner, Ferley is a left-arm spinner while Stickels is a left-hand batsman.

“Along with former Karnataka cricketer S. Shiraguppi, we dealt with the intricacies of spin bowling as well as the art of batting against it. In England, they tend to use strong hands, they are either defending or trying to attack the spinner but out here our batsmen play with soft hands and are always alert to nudge a few singles here and there. The players are happy with what they learnt.” — Principal Correspondent
