Rail concession for men on a par with women

There is a 50 per cent concession in train fare for women aged 60 years and above to travel.

It is a great disappointment that in the interim railway Budget, the above concession for men, in the same age criteria, was not announced. I request the Railway Minister to extend the concession to men and thereby eliminate gender discrimination.

Provide semi-sleeper seats in night trains

Due to the non-availability of berths in II class sleeper trains owing to a high demand from passengers, semi-sleeper seats like those in buses may be introduced in trains with just a overnight journey (Chennai to places in southern districts) on an experimental basis.

The railways have to think of innovative ideas to accommodate more passengers in trains.

Schools fleecing parents

Getting admission to kindergarten classes in schools has become a costly affair.

Many schools, with good infrastructure, demand exorbitant donation from parents, fleecing them on gauging their societal status. The education authorities must take action against such schools and see to that they collect only the prescribed fees.

No need for diversion at three-road junction

Vehicles from Tallakulam ought to take a diversion at Ambedkar statue and another turn at once to the right and again left to reach Alagarkoil Raod.

This is a very dangerous junction since a high volume of traffic, especially from New Natham Road, converge at this point.

An Automatic traffic signal may be installed opposite Pandyan Hotel at the junction of New Natham Road, Race Course Road and Alagarkoil Road and there is no need for any diversions. Moreover, traffic police may be posted at this junction to regulate traffic at both the ends.

May I request the traffic police authorities to streamline the traffic at this junction.
