SP’s complaint: police yet to register case

Staff Reporter

VISAKHAPATNAM: The police are yet to register a case on the complaint filed by Srikakulam Superintendent of Police Ch. Srikant, two days after he lodged a complaint against Deputy Inspector General (Visakha Range) Soumya Mishra.

It’s learnt that the officials are holding parleys with the two IPS officers to solve the issue amicably as registering a case would sully the image of the Department. Nonetheless, both officers and staff of the department expressed the view that it was “unbecoming on the part of the DIG to behave in that manner”. They were also sympathetic to Mr. Srikant, whom they view as a sincere officer and a ‘sensitive officer’.

It’s learnt that the police who had obtained a legal opinion to avoid booking of a case under the SC/ST Atrocities (Prevention) Act against the DIG were also planning to go for a second opinion from the designated court on the issue.

Meanwhile it’s learnt that Police Commissioner N. Sambasiva Rao, who is inquiring into the complaint, has recorded the statements of the Srikakulam SP, the DIG and another IPS officer Vinit Brij Lal. Mr. Sambasiva Rao is expected to submit his report to the DGP on Tuesday.

Controversies have dogged IPS officer Soumya Mishra’s career. During her stint as SP of Vizianagaram, a constable attempted suicide as she reportedly beat him up over some issue. The Labour Department had registered a case as child labour was employed at her house in the past.
