Jayesh Ranjan GUNTUR: Former managing director of A.P. Tourism Corporation Jayesh Ranjan, who took charge as the District Collector on Monday, promised free and fair conduct of elections and resolving of all grievances of general public. Utter chaos prevailed in the chamber of the District Collector on Monday, day reserved for receipt of ‘Public Grievance Petitions’, even as the incumbent assumed office and held review with top revenue officials for an hour. The usual procedure of obtaining token for streamlining the entry of petitioners into Collector’s chamber was done away. Unable to cope with the number of people thronging his chamber, the District Collector asked Zilla Parishad CEO Durga Prasad also to receive some petitions at the other end of his table. Trying to understand the key issues in all the three Revenue Divisions – Tenali, Guntur and Narsaraopet, from the RDOs, he also wanted them to sort out the issues related to change of locations of polling stations, issue of voter ID cards. The issue of voter ID cards had reached 97 per cent in only three mandals out of 57, while holograms were in short-supply for the rest. Election Commission had promised to issue another 10 lakh cards on Monday, which would allow the district administration to complete the work soon, Joint Collector Kanti Lal Dande said. Guntur RDO T. Venkata Rao was also present.
