MALAPPURAM: A two-day workshop on henna decoration and preparation of traditional herbal facial cream began at Calicut University on Tuesday. Vice-Chancellor Anwar Jahan Zuberi inaugurated the workshop organised by the Centre for Folklore Studies, Calicut University, and the Entrepreneurship Development Club of Zamorins Guruvayoorappan College, Kozhikode.
M. Sumati, Zamorins Guruvayoorappan College principal, presided over the function. K.M. Jayaram, Syndicate member; P.K. Krishnanunni Raja, personal secretary to Zamorin; K.X. Joseph, Academic Staff College director; and M.P. Abdul Rasheed, deputy registrar of the District Industrial Centre and Raghavan Payyanad, head of the Centre for Folklore Studies, spoke. Henna designers Nadia Shihab, Ramla Koya, and Nimita Najeeb led the workshop on Tuesday. Thirty-five students from colleges in and around Kozhikode are attending the workshop. Training in traditional facial cream making and applications will be given on Wednesday. Organisers said the ingredients had been prepared over the past one month.
While the Centre for Folklore Studies offered technical support to the workshop, the Entrepreneurship Development Club of Zamorins Guruvayoorappan College has met the financial requirements.
