Hindu Aikya Vedi meet on March 7, 8

Convention to focus on ‘unity among Hindus’

‘Government trying to weaken the Hindu community’

‘Injustices being done in the name of secularism’

KOZHIKODE: Hindu religious leaders drawn from organisations representing the community will discuss emergence of terrorism, religious conversions and threats to the community at the fourth State convention of the Hindu Aikya Vedi to be held here on March 7 and 8.

“Renaissance of Kerala can be achieved only by forging unity among Hindus” would be the central theme of the event, Hindu Aikya Vedi State general secretary Marad Suresh, district general secretary P. Jijendran and chairman of the organising committee of the event Chandrasekharan Nair said at a press conference here on Tuesday.

Joint action plan

The Vedi would join hands with other Hindu organisations to prepare a joint action plan to counter the emerging threats, they said.

They alleged that the government had been trying to weaken the Hindu community by doling out scholarships and other benefits to members of minority communities while denying such benefits even to poor Hindus. Attempts to take over management of temple administration, religious conversions and manipulations of norms for reservation for jobs and other benefits to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes were the other threats facing the community.

“Interestingly, all these injustices are being done in the name of secularism by both the Central and State governments," they alleged.

Opposes AMU centre

They said the Vedi would oppose the attempt to establish a campus of the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) in Malappuram since that “university had played a role in the partition of India.” They also criticised the government decision to renovate madrasas at government expense.

On March 7, Hindu Aikya Vedi State working president K.N. Ravindranath would hoist the convention flag and Swami Vivekamruta Chaitanya of Amritananda Madhom would inaugurate the event.

There would be a grand Hindu convention, women’s convention, procession and delegates’ session.

Leaders of the Kerala Kshethra Samrakshana Samithi, ABVP, RSS, and NSS would be speaking at various sessions of the Hindu convention.
