KANNUR: As many as 34,468 students will appear for the Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) examinations in 185 centres in the district. As many as 19,366 candidates will write the examinations at centres in Kannur and 15,102 at those in Thalassery. A meeting of officials here on Tuesday, chaired by District Collector Ishita Roy, finalised the arrangements. The centres have been grouped into clusters, a press release on the meeting said. The question papers are being kept at the Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Payyannur, and the Payyannur Girls Higher Secondary School. After sorting from Wednesday to Friday, these will be shifted to the District Treasury here and the Syndicate Bank branch at Cherupuzha and the Treasury and the State Bank of Travancore branch at Thalassery. In the next stage, the question papers will be shifted to 14 sub-treasuries and two bank branches. On examination days, the question papers will be delivered to the centres in vehicles. Delivery and distribution officers and assistants have been appointed. The examination centres will have night watchers and police patrolling. Superintendent of Police S. Sreejith and Deputy Director of Education Baby Usha Kiran were present at the meeting.
