THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Nearly 2.16 crore people will be eligible to vote in the coming Lok Sabha elections from Kerala, according to the final electoral rolls published by the Election Commission of India. This is nearly five lakh more than in 2004. The largest number of voters is in Pathanamthitta (11.94 lakh) followed by Thrissur (11.62 lakh). The lowest number is in Ponnani (9.77 lakh), barring which all have more than 10 lakh voters. These figures do not include the service voters and are likely to change marginally with addition of names of new applicants. The largest number of voters was recorded in 1999 when the total, including service voters, exceeded 2.2 crores. This did not indicate a peaking in number of voters in real terms in 1999, as the record number was partly the result of failure to delete many voters, who were either dead or had changed their place of residence, from the electoral rolls.
