CEO to look into content of GOs

All GOs issued after 3.30 p.m. on Monday will be scrutinised: CEO

Report sought on Indira Gandhi logo on houses constructed under Indiramma

HYDERABAD: Chief Electoral Officer I. V. Subba Rao has said the EC, while considering action with regard to the large number of orders issued by the government on Monday, will go by their “content and not by their numbers.”

Referring to the Opposition’s outcry against the GOs, Mr. Subba Rao said at a press conference here on Tuesday a decision taken before the announcement of the election schedule at 3.30 p.m. on Monday did not violate the model code.

However, all the GOs issued after 3.30 p.m. would be scrutinised with reference to the timing, the content and the decision that formed the basis.

Action would be taken if a particular GO issued after 3.30 p.m. benefited any individual or a company or announced or sanctioned a scheme. On the plea made by the TDP-led four-party alliance for replacement of Chief Secretary P. Ramakanth Reddy and Director-General of Police S. S. P. Yadav, the CEO said the Election Commission would examine the issue if a written complaint was submitted citing specific instances of favours done to the Congress.

Mr Rao sought a report on affixing the Indira Gandhi logo on the houses constructed under Indiramma programme and on painting these houses in the tri-colour. Acting on Opposition complaints, he stopped Kalwakurthy MLA Y. Kista Reddy from laying the foundation for a project in Mahabubnagar district, and called for a report on inauguration of a railway bridge by Union Minister of State for Defence M. M. Pallam Raju. He said he would finalise the list of villages prone to trouble after consulting Collectors on Friday.

He appealed to the eligible citizens to enrol themselves as voters as registrations would continue till the date of withdrawal of nominations. To avoid duplicity of names in the electoral rolls, he would conduct a booth-level meeting with party agents for a sixth time on March 15.
