Special Correspondent

Chief Minister cites the examples of rejection of plea for NSG unit and IIT

SETTING THE AGENDA: Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa addressing a press conference in Gulbarga on Tuesday.

GULBARGA: Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa said on Tuesday that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would come out with a chargesheet against what he called the step motherly attitude of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government at the Centre towards the State Government.

He told presspersons here that the chargesheet would contain details of how the Cenre denied the rightful dues of the State and make it a main plank along with the achievements of the nine-month-old BJP government in the State.

Mr. Yeddyurappa alleged that the Centre rejected the State’s plea for a unit of the National Security Guard (NSG) in Bangalore in view of the threats to the important Defence establishments in Bangalore and its surroundings.

It did not sanction Indian Institute of Technology (IITs) and other Central establishments to the State.

The Chief Minister said the BJP would come out with details of the achievements of the State Government, especially social justice.

Rejecting the charge that the State Government had violated the model code of conduct by announcing the nomination of presidents of different boards and corporations after the announcement of Lok Sabha elections, Mr. Yeddyurappa said: “All these decisions were taken much earlier to the declaration of the dates of elections and announced well in advance and not a single nomination was announced after the declaration of the dates of the elections to the Lok Sabha.”

The Chief Minister said the party had finalised the list of candidates for nine constituencies and the State Election Committee was meeting in Bangalore on Wednesday to finalise the names for another 12 constituencies in the State. The candidates for the remaining seven seats would be announced shortly.

The candidates for the Gulbarga and Bidar Lok Sabha seats would be finalised on Wednesday.

The Chief Minister rejected the suggestions of the State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) to change the site of the proposed airport in Bellary to another place and said “we have selected the right location and we will go ahead with the acquisition without affecting the interests of farmers.”

He said there was no proposal before the government to reconsider the decision to build the Airport in Bellary.

On the model code of conduct, the Chief Minister said a special Cabinet meeting had been convened on Wednesday in Bangalore to discuss the model code of conduct.

On the power situation, Mr. Yediyurappa said that the Government had decided to increase the power generation in the hydel units and sanction more funds for the purchase of power from other States to cope with the growing demand in March, April and May before the onset of monsoon. He said there was no proposal before the Government to exempt Gulbarga, Raichur, Bellary, Bijapur and Bidar from the purview of the load shedding.
