3 lakh colour TVs distributed in 14 constituencies of Chennai
Staff Reporter
CHENNAI: The State government has so far distributed 3.04 lakh free colour television sets in the 14 legislative constituencies in Chennai, Mayor M.Subramanian said recently.
Speaking at a function organised to distribute colour television sets, he said, “The government has launched the fourth phase of distribution of 41.62 lakh television sets at a cost of Rs.750 crore at Royapuram.”
Mr.Subramanian also laid the foundation stone of a dispensary in Saidapet, which would be built at a cost of Rs.50 lakh. As the old dispensary was in a dilapidated condition, the residents had made a request for construction of the new hospital, he said.
The construction of the dispensary will be completed in 10 months, he said. Speaking at another function to distribute colour television sets to the people in the city recently, Minister for Electricity Arcot Veeraswami said, “As television is crucial for improving the general awareness of the common man, the State government is determined to provide all people of Tamil Nadu with colour television sets free of cost.”
