Demand for probe into girl’s death

State urged to remove deficiencies at the hostel

TIRUCHI: The Tiruchi unit of National Federation of the Blind has urged the State Government to take steps to find out the cause of the death of E. Malar, a visually impaired girl inmate of the hostel of the Government Girls Higher Secondary School for the Blind at Puthur here on Saturday.

The Federation also urged the government to ensure that such incidents do not recur and initiate stern action against the persons concerned.

A native of Tiruvannamalai district, Malar who was studying in tenth standardwas found with blood oozing out of her mouth on Saturday.

She was declared dead at the Government Headquarters Hospital. The Woraiyur police have registered a case.

On the direction of Collector T. Soundiah, the District Disabled Rehabilitation Officer R. Shyamala conducted enquiries with the students, hostel warden and ayah.

The Federation members resorted to a road roko near the Collectorate here on Monday morning demanding action against the Headmaster and the Warden.

Memorandum

Later, a section of them led by the Federation’s State president Ravichandran handed over a memorandum to the district administration in which they claimed that negligence and poor sanitary conditions were responsible for the death. The memorandum alleged that the girl was not taken in time for medical treatment.

They urged the State government to intervene and advise the administration on removing the deficiencies.
