Panchayat presidents
C. Ayyakalai was declared elected president of Poigaikkaraipatti panchayat in Madurai East panchayat union; V. Nallapichan to the post of president of Pudusukkampatti panchayat of Melur panchayat union and S. Ramesh to the post of president of Aavalsoorampatti panchayat of Kallikudi panchayat union in the by-elections held for various posts of local bodies in Madurai district. According to an official press release, in the ward elections, M. Pushpam won in Poigaikaraipatti; A. Ezhuvi in Pulipatti; P. Mokkapandi in Thottappanaickanur and M. Kaliswari in Karaikeni.
