HYDERABAD: A four-and-half-a-year-old boy, who was kidnapped for ransom by his father’s friend from Tamil Nadu four days ago, was rescued in a swift operation by the Hyderabad police on Tuesday.

Alerted by the Tamil Nadu police about the abduction of master Mithun Sai and the possible presence of the ‘kidnapper’, Devraj Prabhakar, in Hyderabad, the Commissioner’s Task Force officials spread a dragnet for him. The Task Force (North) team spotted Prabhakar, along with the boy, near a park at Tyagaraya Gana Sabha in Chikkadpally around 11.30 a.m. They identified the boy as Sai based on the photograph sent by the Tamil Nadu police. “After thorough interrogation, he admitted to have abducted the boy for ransom,” the Task Force DCP, V.B. Kamalasan Reddy, told reporters.

Hailing from Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh, Prabhakar fell in love with a woman while working with a private firm in Hyderabad three years ago and married her. They were blessed with two daughters but got separated eventually having developed differences over family matters.

His wife, who began living separately at Machilipatnam with her children, agreed to come back to him but demanded Rs. 20,000. To secure the money, he first abducted a six-year-old boy Sarabarish from Chennai, brought him to Hyderabad and set the boy free after collecting Rs. 45,000 ransom.

Two persons who aided him in this were subsequently arrested by the Chennai police but Prabhakar continued to evade them. Having gone scot-free in the first case, he got emboldened and abducted his friend Babu’s son Sai from Vellore district in Tamil Nadu and ended up behind the bars.
