Junior Intermediate exams begin

Staff Reporter

VISAKHAPATNAM: Tense faces with eyes glued to the books lined up outside the exam halls as the Intermediate first year exams began on Wednesday at 103 centres across the district.

A total of 40,939 students appeared for the exam from the general stream out of 42,498 registrations and 3,488 students appeared from the vocational stream out of 3,488 registrations.

Braving oppressive heat, hundreds of students took the first paper of Sanskrit. As the exam ended, most students came out with smiling faces. “The paper went off very well. I am expecting more than 90 per cent in this paper,” said Srilatha, a student.

The good start gave a boost to the confidence level of students who will be gearing up for tougher papers in the coming days.

While by and large the exams went off peacefully, at some centres the big crowd of parents and students created confusion.

There was a bottleneck situation at CBM Compound where two centres were located at close proximity near Timpany pre-school campus. There was a row of vehicles and four-wheelers crowding the narrow by-lanes when the exam got over.

“My daughter had to walk a long way down because of the jammed streets. Some traffic control mechanism should be kept in place to avoid the rush.

Students get unnecessary tense since they are eager to go home to prepare for the next paper,” said a parent.

Coupled with that was the problem of congestion caused due to the auto-rickshaws carrying students from schools located nearby.
