ONGOLE/VIJAYAWADA: Sixteen persons were killed in three accidents in the State, two in Prakasam and one in Krishna district, on Wednesday. Six persons died when the Tata Sumo vehicle in which they were travelling collided with a goods transport vehicle near the flyover at Vellalacheruvu in Santamagulur mandal in the morning. According to the police, the Sumo was going from Koilakuntla in Kadapa district to Guntur to get its upholstery changed. Seven persons boarded it at Vinukonda. As it was negotiating the flyover, a goods transport vehicle belonging to Kranti Transports tried to overtake it but lost control and hit the Sumo reducing it to pulp. Accident on NHSeven persons were killed on the spot, while two sustained injuries. The deceased were identified as Muralimohan (40), driver and Basha and Rajavarapu Satyam (50), Rajavarapu Veeramma (45) and Rajavarapu Prakash (2), Dupati Jojaiah (35) and Avula Tripurantakudu (50). The bodies were sent to Narasaraopet hospital for post-mortem. Four persons were killed in another accident on the Chennai-Kolkata NH-5 near Maddipadu. A jeep carrying 10 persons that was going from Tirupati to Guntur stopped on the road margin as the driver wanted to replace a rear tyre. An unidentified vehicle travelling at high speed rammed into the jeep killing two persons on the spot. Two others died while undergoing treatment at Guntur and Ongole. Marriage partyMeanwhile, five persons of a marriage party were killed on the spot when their auto-rickshaw trolley was hit by a lorry coming in the opposite direction on the outskirts of Pamarru in Krishna district. The remaining 24 passengers and the driver of the trolley escaped with injuries and were shifted to hospitals in Gudivada and Vijayawada. The victims were identified as Aavala Appala Swamy, 60, Mugasetti Sumathi, 16, her younger sister Alekhya, 13, Setti Appala Naidu, 30, and Uttarapalli Ramesh, 19, all residents of Komarojulanka near Ravulapalem in East Godavari district.
