‘Orders from BHEL, BEML, HAL can offer them some respite’ Bangalore: Speakers at a seminar on micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) asked small-scale entrepreneurs to focus their attention on bagging orders from public sector undertakings operating in Karnataka. They were participating in a seminar-cum-exhibition on vendor development organised by the MSME Development Institute (MSME-DI) in association with the Department of Industries and Commerce, the Karnataka Small Scale Industries Development Corporation Ltd., Karnataka Small Scale Industries’ Association (KASSIA) and the Peenya Industries’ Association on Wednesday. L. Shanthakumari Sundar, Additional Chief Secretary and Development Commissioner, said banks have been instructed to ensure that a portion of the payments they make to large corporate borrowers are earmarked for paying their dues to MSMEs. Arvind Burji, President, KASSIA, said the State Government should follow the Union Government’s guidelines on “preferential treatment of small-scale industries”. He said increased orders from Karnataka-based public sector units such as BHEL, BEML and HAL could offer some respite for small units. Rajkumar Khatri, Commissioner for Industrial Development and Director of Industries and Commerce, said about 1,890 loans of MSMEs in the State had been “restructured” in the last 35 days. He said his department was “monitoring” the progress of the restructuring package.
