Chennai: The valedictory function of the Vidya Mandir-Sportstar under-14 cricket tournament was held at Vidya Mandir Senior Secondary School on Wednesday. PSBB, K.K. Nagar, the winning team, was presented the trophy and certificates by chief guest, V. Kalidas, Vice-President (Advt.), The Hindu. Vidya Mandir SSS Principal Bhavani Raghunandan presented the trophy and certificates to runner-up Vidya Mandir. PSBB had defeated Vidya Mandir by 110 runs in the final last week, with PSBB’s S. Sriram’s four wickets for 21 runs earning him the player-of-the-match award. Mr. Kalidas said that cricket was a way of life and that it brought out the gentleman in a player. “The game can teach us a lot, and the focus should be on playing the sport as it should be played,” he said. Special awards were presented to Adithya Giridhar (Best Batsman), Sai Prakash (Best Bowler) and Anirudh Raghavan (Player of the Tournament) at the function. — Sports Reporter
