State beach volleyball championship

CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu State Volleyball Association and Marina Beach Volleyball Club will conduct the 4th State championship at the Nehru Stadium courts here from March 5 to 8. Speaking to newspersons on Tuesday, M. Prabhakaran, Organising Secretary, said 100 men’s pairs and 35 women’s have confirmed participation.

“It will be a league-cum-knockout format. We have divided the men’s section into 32 groups with three in each. In the women’s category, we have divided the teams into eight groups with three in each.

The toppers in each group in men’s and women’s sections will qualify for the knock-out stage,” he said.

Indian Bank, Indian Overseas Bank, SBI, Central Excise, SAI, SDAT, SRM University, Hindustan Group of Institutions, Dev Sports Academy (Chengalpattu), Nagapattinam BVC and Marina BVC are some of the teams which are taking part. — Principal Correspondent
