Bangalore ‘gets ready to run’ on March 8

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: In addition to being Women’s Day, March 8 could also be a day to “Get Bangalore Running.” Runners for Life (RFL) will organise “Feet on the Street: Let’s Get Bangalore Running” — a five-km run in the city.

The run, planned to start from Kanteerava Stadium and inside Cubbon Park will raise funds, a portion of which will go to Dream-A-Dream, a non-governmental organisation working with vulnerable and disadvantaged children in the city. The aim behind a running group is to accelerate the adoption of running to increase awareness of fitness and healthy living among the rapidly increasing and busy population in the city, a release said.

RFL, which claims to be the largest running community in the country with 2,000 members, meets twice a week on the outskirts of the city, where a minimum of 100 people participate. They run a minimum of 10 km, or in multiples of 10 km. RFL hopes to gather anywhere between 500-1,000 members on March 8. The beneficiary of Feet on the Street, Buvana Sharma, fundraising and communications manager of Dream-A-Dream, says, “The run will also help our organisation to raise funds to support our life skills programs where children learn valuable skills which will help them to achieve their dreams.”
