HASSAN: A seven-member gang assaulted a truck driver and took away Rs. 14,500 from him near Karekere in Hassan taluk in the early hours of Thursday. According to the police, Ratnaraju (38) of Neralakatte village in Bantwal taluk of Dakshina Kannada was driving the tiles-laden truck from Bangalore to Mangalore. The seven persons who came in a car stopped him near Karekere and picked up a fight with him for not allowing their car to overtake the truck. They dragged him out of the truck, assaulted him and took away the cash. Ratnaraju has been admitted to the Hassan Institute of Medical Sciences. A case has been registered in the Shantigrama Police Station.
