CEO begins consultations with officials
Special Correspondent
CHENNAI: Having assessed election-preparedness of the State over the past few days, Chief Electoral Officer Naresh Gupta on Thursday had a series of meetings with officials of the northern zone to strengthen systems, ensure two-way communication at all times and complete a vulnerability mapping of the zone.
He will meet senior State government representatives from the western zone on Friday for a similar exercise.
After the process is completed, the CEO will begin consultations with recognised political parties in the State on the election process.
Then, the office of the CEO will select returning officers (ROs), who will be in charge of booths across the State.
The ROs will be given training either in the last week of March or the first week of April, Mr. Gupta said.
On electoral rolls, election officials said that “in about a week,” the updated list would be available on the Election Commission website in PDF format for voters to verify. If they had any doubts voters could ring up the office of the DRO (elections) and check their names.
