KUMBAKONAM: Close on the heels of success of Chandrayaan I, preparatory works are going on for Chandrayaan II to be launched in 2011 and 2012, according to Mayilswamy Annadurai, Project Director of Chandrayaan I of Indian Space Research Organisation. He told presspersons at Kumbakonam on Thursday that Chandrayaan I was doing well and had sent a lot of data and messages. Its working is satisfactory and all instruments are functioning properly.
Based on the data given by Chanrayaan I, the location where one portion of Chandrayaan II is to be stationed on the moon will be decided. Another portion of Chandrayaan II will be circling around Moon. The stationary one will conduct experiments on the surface of the moon and send messages to the circling one which will send them to the earth station. Asked when the fully indigenous Chandrayaan would be launched , Annadurai said, “Actually we are going together which is necessary for growth and sharing of scientific information.”
The US is soon going to launch its Lunar Reconnaisance Orbital (LRO) satellite which will also explore moon along with Chandrayaan I.
