“Construction of subway to be completed within two months”

Gauging : Divisional Railway Manager, Tiruchi S. Subramhanyan inspecting the progress of the construction of a sub-way at the Srirangam Railway Station on Thursday.

TIRUCHI: Construction of a new subway at the Srirangam Railway Station, to connect the island platforms with the main entry, will be completed within the next two months, said S. Subramhanyan, Divisional Railway Manager, Tiruchi.

The sub-way is being constructed at a cost of about Rs.45 lakh and it will fulfil a felt need of the people of Srirangam and passengers.

The subway has been built using pre-cast concrete blocks.

After inspecting the progress here on Thursday, Mr. Subramhanyan told reporters that a major portion of the development works taken up at the Srirangam Railway Station has been completed.

The railways had taken up various works at a cost of about Rs.1.23 crore.

Under the station improvement plan, the level of island platforms 1, 2 and 3 were raised, following the gauge conversion.

The work was carried out without affecting normal services.

The platforms were being raised to enable the travelling public to board and alight from trains easily.

The flooring of the platforms, passenger waiting area and the circulation area in front were also improved.

Water supply and other passenger amenities have been provided at the station.

Mr. Subramhanyan said Rs.15 crore has been allotted for improving passenger amenities in various stations in the Tiruchi Division during the current year and last year about Rs.14 crore was spent for the purpose.
