Poll officials crack the whip on code violations

HYDERABAD: Election authorities in the State capital have begun cracking the whip on poll code violations. Apart from announcing a ban on use of loudspeakers in the nights, authorities have already ordered removal of 400 hoardings and nearly 20,000 banners dotting the twin cities without any permission violating the code.

At a meeting with political parties’ representatives on Thursday, the District Election Officer (DEO) and GHMC Commissioner S.P. Singh made it clear that no loud speaker, either static or mounted on any vehicle, shall be used. Videographers and cameramen would be going around the city to record the model code of conduct violations. The Returning Officers (Ros) have been asked to submit the violations by 4 p.m every day.

Seeking support of the politicians in maintenance of law and order and in following the code, Mr. Singh made it clear that no convoy of more than three vehicles (excluding the security vehicles) will be allowed from the date of notification till the completion of election process. Action would be initiated if vehicles not registered for campaigning were found to be used.

Political parties or the candidates should inform the local police about the venue and time for any proposed meeting well in advance to enable police make necessary arrangements for controlling traffic and maintain law and order. The organisers must take steps in advance to ensure smooth passage of procession to avoid traffic inconvenience.

Mr. Singh also discussed in detail on restriction of number of vehicles and people at the time of filing nominations, prevention of electioneering within the prohibited area of polling stations, prevention of misuse of vehicles on election day and prohibiting sale of liquor, an official release stated.
