Jewellery recovered

MADURAI: Police recovered 438 sovereigns of gold which were lost during November, December 2008 and in January 2009, said Commissioner of Police K. Nandabalan here on Wednesday.

Speaking to reporters after returning the valuables to the owners, he said that apart from the gold jewellery, Rs 51,000 cash, 11 two-wheelers, two auto-rickshaws, one tractor, 13 mobile phones and one laptop among others valued at about Rs 60 lakh were recovered from the accused by special police teams.

A total of 64 persons were arrested in connection with these cases.

The police recovered valuables worth Rs 2.21 crore which were reported missing and handed those over to the complainants between January 2008 and January 2009, he said.
