Veteran journalist passes away
Staff Reporter
V. Balasubramanian
CHENNAI: V. Balasubramanian, who led a compact editorial team in the formative years of Frontline magazine, passed away here on Wednesday. He was 82.
Mr. Balasubramanian worked for The Mail before joining the editorial desk of The Hindu in the late 1970s. In November 1984, he was assigned the task of producing the magazine, which he worked for till the early 1990s.
Mr. Balasubramanian, always self-effacing, was diligent and meticulous in his approach to journalism. His colleagues admired him for his patience and eye for detail, at a time when technological aids to editorial functions were less pervasive.
After his retirement, he was drawn towards spirituality. Before becoming a journalist, he taught French and German. He is survived by his wife, two sons, a daughter and three brothers including Professor Bala Balachandran, founder and honorary dean of the Great Lakes Institute of Management.
