Kidnapped sons of tea garden manager rescued in joint operation

Sushanta Talukdar

Guwahati: A joint effort by the Assam Police, the Army and the Central Reserve Police Force led to the rescue of two minor sons of a tea garden manager at Sonitpur.

They were kidnapped on Wednesday night.

The abductors, who demanded Rs. 2 crore for the release of the boys, fled after joint teams of the police, the Army and the Central Reserve Police Force cordoned off a village in nearby Udalguri district, where the two brothers were lodged.

The abductors reportedly asked the boys to return home with the help of the security personnel.

Karan (14) and Barun (9) ran crying towards the security personnel who escorted them to their parents, said Principal Secretary (Home) Subhash Ch Das.

Abductors identified

Mr. Das said the police had identified the abductors and owners of the vehicle used by them. They were on the job to nab them.

When contacted, Parmider Singh Sehra, father of the boys, told The Hindu that the family got a fresh lease of life after the return of the children.

“It became possible by the grace of God and due to prompt action by the administration, the police, the Army, the CRPF and every one,” said Mr. Sehra.
