I acted on my own: Mallya

London/New Delhi: United Breweries group chairman Vijay Mallya on Friday said he had acted on his own and bought the Gandhi memorabilia. “I have not had any dialogue or any conversation with anybody in the government. This was purely my personal decision,” Mr. Mallya told PTI over phone from France.

Reacting to Culture Minister Ambika Soni’s statement on his services being utilised to procure the items, Mr. Mallya said: “I’m not aware of what Ambika Soni has said, but neither before nor after the auction, anybody in the government was in touch with me.” Ms. Soni had told reporters in New Delhi that Mr. Mallya’s man had been in touch with the Indian Mission. — PTI
