Rajahmundry
Rajahmundry: Despite directions from Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, urban areas in East Godavari have been reeling under power cuts, technically called load relief, since last one week. The problem aggravated on Friday in Rajahmundry, Ramachandrapuram, Kakinada, Tuni and other towns. In Rajahmundry, in addition to regular power cut for two hours, one hour each in the morning and evening, there was no power in the afternoon for more than two hours. Power went off at frequent intervals between 5.30 p.m. and 8 p.m. People who depended upon the UPS also had trouble as their batteries could not be charged properly due to frequent power cuts. BreakdownWhen contacted, N. Hanumantha Rao, Superintendent Engineer of AP Transco, East Godavari, said: “Under frequency is the reason for power cuts in the last three days.” This apart the breakdown of the Danvaipeta feeder and overload on the Mallaiahpeta feeder also contributed to “load relief.” The consumption as on date in the district increased to 6.6 million units per day from 6 million units the previous month, he added.
