Special Correspondent

New role: P.M. Mukundan (left) being ordained as ‘Madayan’ of the Parassini Madappura Muthappan Temple at Parassinikkadavu on Saturday.

KANNUR: P.M. Mukundan was designated new ‘Madayan’ (hereditary chief priest) of the Parassini Madappuram Muthappan Temple at Parassinikkadavu on Saturday.

Mr. Mukundan succeeded P.M. Bhaskaran Madayan who died recently. He had already been appointed as the trustee and general manager of the temple.

Large number of local people, including members of the Parassini Madappura family that was controlling the temple, were present at the temple to witness the ritual in which 80-year-old Mr. Mukundan was ordained as ‘Madayan’ of the temple.

Priorities

A press release issued by the temple here said that Mr. Mukundan was planning to implement some projects for improving the facilities in the temple.

Top priority would be given to enhancing the facilities in the temple’s dining hall where free meals were served twice a day.
