KANNUR: The Association of Clinical Microbiologists and Biochemists (ACMB) has called for measures to ensure external and internal quality controls in diagnostic laboratories in the State. A State-level collective of professionals working in the field of biochemistry and microbiology in diagnostic laboratories and allied sectors in the State, the ACMB had been highlighting the importance of quality and credibility in their functioning, association leaders said here. The association was also stressing the importance of continuing education programmes for professionals. Association secretary M. Sajith Chandran said that liquid chemistry handling systems being used in modern clinical laboratories had advantages as well as limitations. Stability of chemical reactions in laboratories depended on various factors, he said adding that norms such as the Standard Deviations and Allowable Error Limit Percentage were conceived for ensuring a common standard of deviation and error as error cannot be totally avoided in a laboratory.
