Moon gazing: Chairman of the ISRO G. Madhavan Nair viewing the moon after launching the mobile observatory of AKAS at Kollam on Saturday. KOLLAM: G. Madhavan Nair, Chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), has said that while science is given much importance at the school level, its importance ends with the entrance examinations. He was addressing a gathering at the Asramam Maidan here on Saturday after inaugurating the All Kerala Astro Science Society (AKAS) and launching the mobile observatory of the AKAS. InterestDr. Nair said interest among the youth in the direction of science and technology should be generated. India has to invest much in science and technology for attracting the youth, which should start at the school level itself. He said that the scientists of India had made big achievements all over the world. Research is a continuous process and it creates a cumulative effect. He said that the advanced eight inch Ritchey-Chretien telescope gifted to AKAS for the mobile observatory is a big asset. It will be of immense help especially to the student community by providing valuable information on astronomy. The function was presided over by Mayor N. Padmalochanan. President of AKAS G.K. Sasidharan welcomed the gathering. Former Ministers C.V. Padmarajan and Kadavur Sivadasan; the former editor of Janayugam Thengamam Balakrishnan; writer P. Keshavan Nair and AKAS vice-president G. Saratchandran Nair spoke.
