Chief Electoral Officer asks firms to bring inaccessible areas under network coverage

BHUBANESWAR: State Chief Electoral Officer Alka Panda on Saturday asked the telecommunication service providers operating in the State to provide uninterrupted service during the coming Lok Sabha and Assembly polls.

Presiding over a meeting of the representatives of various telecom companies and organisations, Ms. Panda said that proper functioning of the telephone and mobile service networks will play a key role for the conduct of a free and fair poll. The telecom companies that attended the meeting convened by the CEO include Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited, Reliance Telecom Ltd, Tata Teleservices, Vodafone and Airtel.

The CEO asked the telecom service providers to make efforts to bring the inaccessible areas under their respective network coverage areas.

She also offered help if any of the companies required any governmental support for expansion of their network.

The expansion works should be completed by end of this month, Ms. Panda said.
