Health insurance scheme launched in Nagercoil

Nagercoil: NIRMAYA, a health insurance scheme from the Central Government for the welfare of persons afflicted with autism, cerebral palsy, mental illness, etc., was launched by the Lok Sabha Member, A.V. Bellarmine on Friday.
Addressing the gathering, the MP said the scheme was intended to provide affordable health insurance to persons with all types of physically disability. The aim of the scheme was also to enable and empower persons with disabilities to live as independently as far as possible and improve the general health care condition and quality of life of persons with disability.
The scheme envisaged to deliver ‘community based’ cover, which would have a single premium across all age band, provided some coverage irrespective of the type of disability and render insurance cover up to Rs.1 lakh.
Under this scheme health services would be provided by a network of hospitals and nursing homes, which would be empanelled for the scheme. The National Trust, an autonomous body of the Ministry of Justice and Empowerment, would maintain the details of each beneficiary.
All persons with disabilities would be eligible and included without any selection, said the MP.
