‘Conduit’ for Bangalore blasts held

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: The police on Saturday formally arrested Sarfaraz Nawaz, a native of Ernakulam in Kerala and a resident of Muscat, for allegedly financing 2008 Bangalore serial blasts.

“Nawaz gave Rs. 3.5 lakh to organise the blasts, and the money was given to him by Lashkar-e-Taiba operative Wali alias Rehan,” Commissioner of Police Shankar M. Bidari said. “Soon after the blasts, Nawaz arranged to send five persons for training in Pakistan of whom 4 were shot dead in Kashmir while one is in police custody.”

Nawaz was accused of routing LeT funds to Abdul Sattar, believed to have led the Indian Mujahideen cell that carried out the blasts.
