BARASAT: Mohammedan Sporting held Chirag United SC to a 2-2 draw to salvage a point in an 18th round encounter of the ONGC I-League football here at the Vidyasagar Stadium on Saturday. Continuing its newfound form, Chirag looked poised to score its third win in the last four rounds as it went up twice against Sporting. But Sporting, fighting for survival in the relegation zone, came back each time to equalise and forced a draw. Subair strikesChirag found the first break in the 17th-minute through Nigerian striker Subair Muritala Ali. Sporting levelled in the second session when forward Suraj Mondal found the target in the 58th minute. Chirag, which had beaten Sporting 1-0 in the first phase of the tournament, found the lead again in the 74th minute with its other striker Shankar Oraon putting the team in sight of a win. Okoro equalisesBut Sporting clawed back into the game once again as skipper Mike Okoro fetched the equaliser in the 79th minute. The draw kept Chirag in the eighth position with 21 points from 18 matches, while Sporting remained 11th with 16 points from as many matches. — Principal Correspondent
