TIRUCHI: N. Balasubramanian, Dean-cum-Special Officer, Perambalur Government Medical College, took charge as the Dean of the K. A. P. Viswanatham Government Medical College, Tiruchi, on Thursday. He replaces P. Ravishankar, who has been transferred.

Dr. Balasubramanian would hold additional charge as the Dean-cum-Special Officer of the Perambalur Government Medical College, which the government hopes to start next academic year. He had previously served as the Head, Department of Dermatology and Deputy Superintendent at the medical college and its hospital here.

In an informal chat with reporters after assuming charge, he said that two new post-graduate courses, MD in Paediatrics and Anaesthesia, are likely to be started at the college from the next academic year.

Teams from the Medical Council of India have already inspected the college and its hospital and the permission for starting the courses was expected soon. The intake for the courses would be two each. Five out of the 10 rank holders in the post-graduate entrance examination this year were students of the K. A. P. Viswanatham Government Medical College, he disclosed.

He promised to improve cleanliness at the Annal Gandhi Government Hospital.
