FRAT launches insurance scheme

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Federation of Residents’ Associations of Thiruvananthapuram (FRAT) on Saturday inked a family insurance package with United India Insurance that would cover all residents in the district aged between three months and 80 years.

There will be no health checks done on those signing up for the package and any person who regularly pays the premium can continue in the programme till his death. The insurance scheme — available from Rs. 50,000 to Rs. 5 lakh — would cover the fee for doctors and nurses, hospital room rent, surgery charges, expenses for various investigations, ambulance charges, the patient’s food bill and all charges incurred 30 days prior to admission and till 60 days after discharge.

The scheme was announced at a press conference here by FRAT general secretary Rajagopalan Nair. In special circumstances, the policy would also cover expenses incurred for treatment at home.

While a normal delivery would be covered to the extent of Rs. 20,000, a caesarean delivery would get Rs.30,000.

An extra payment of Rs. 60 along with the premium would fetch a policy member an accident cover of Rs.1 lakh. The daughter of a policy holder will receive insurance benefits till she gets employed or married; there is no upper age limit. For male children, the upper age limit is 26 years.

Ayurveda treatment

Another speciality of the scheme is that it provides cover for Ayurveda treatment. The premium amounts range from Rs. 953 to Rs.17,986, for various packages, he added.
