THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Electricity Minister A.K. Balan has appealed to the people to restrict the use of power in the context of increasing consumption. In a press note here on Saturday, he said lamps that were not necessary should be switched off and electrical gadgets, particularly refrigerators, water heaters and iron boxes, should not be used between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. The Minister said power consumption was increasing on a daily basis. It had risen from 40 to 41 million units a day during the first week of February to 48 million units. The government had earlier taken a decision to suspend load-shedding from March 8 to 25 on account of the SSLC examination. The increase in consumption at such a time had created a crisis.
