Man jumps before Metro train, dies

NEW DELHI: A man in his fifties jumped to death in front of a Delhi Metro railway train at Chawri Bazar station on Saturday morning, disrupting rail services on the Jahangirpuri-Central Secretariat line for 20 minutes.

According to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, the incident took place at about 8-15 a.m. when the man jumped on to the track just as a train from Jahangirpuri was entering the platform at Chawri Bazar. The man died on the spot. “Through the closed-circuit TV footage it was crystal clear that the man had committed suicide. He deliberately jumped on the tracks when the metro was ten metres away from stopping at the Chawri Bazar station. Unfortunately he did not carry an identity card and so far nobody has claimed his body,” said DMRC spokesperson Anuj Dayal.
