Health camps to be kept in abeyance

CHENNAI: Conduct of health screening camps under the Varumon Kappom Thittam, a campaign by the Health Department to facilitate early detection and treatment of illness, has to be kept in abeyance till instructions of the Election Commission are received, according to Chief Electoral Officer Naresh Gupta.
His statement was in the context of a communication of March 4 sent by the CEO’s office to the Deputy Director of Health Services, Sivakasi, allowing the conduct of the health camps, in response to a clarification sought by the Deputy Director.
‘Oversight’
In a press release, the CEO stated that the communication was sent by “oversight.”
The instructions of the Election Commission had been sought with regard to continuance of the camps held every week on Monday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
The Director of Public Health and Preventive Medicine, Chennai, was instructed in this regard.
