KANNUR: In a novel way of driving home the message of gender equality on International Women’s Day on Sunday, women in the households of members of the Vishwa Karma Sangham in New Mahe, Mahe and Thalassery handed over their kitchens to their menfolk. The dawn-to-dusk ‘boycott’ was an expression of solidarity with other women who were victims of gender discrimination. Women in 180-odd families left their kitchens in the morning in a novel way of observing International Women’s Day, Sangham activists said. The programme was formally inaugurated by Sangham women’s wing leader Nagamani at a public gathering near the check-post at New Mahe. It was followed by a seminar on women. P. Janaki, M.A. Bindu and Bindu Rajiv were among those who spoke on the occasion.
