AHMEDABAD: The Gujarat High Court has again postponed till March 12 the hearing on the application of the Supreme Court-appointed Special Investigation Team for the cancellation of the anticipatory bail of Minister of State for Women’s Welfare Mayaben Kodnani and Vishwa Hindu Parishad leader Jaideep Patel. The hearing, which was earlier due to be held on March 2, was re-scheduled for Monday but the court granted more time to Ms. Kodnani and Mr. Patel to submit their replies as to why their anticipatory bails should not be cancelled. Justice D. H. Waghela also took SIT to task for the delay in filing the application for cancellation of the anticipatory bail. The Ahmedabad Sessions Court had granted the duo anticipatory bail on February 5 after SIT declared them “absconders” when they failed to respond to its summons for questioning at the end of January. Ms. Kodnani and Mr. Patel were wanted by SIT for questioning in connection with the Naroda-Patiya and Naroda Gaam massacres of 2002. The Sessions Court also granted bail to the BJP member of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation, Bipin Patel, who had surrendered in February before SIT in connection with the Gulbarg Society massacre.
