Low pressure area brings down temperature
Staff Reporter
CHENNAI: An overcast sky and drizzle on Monday morning came as a pleasant respite for residents who were preparing for yet another hot day.
The formation of a low pressure area over Sri Lanka and the adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal off Tamil Nadu coast helped bring down the soaring mercury level prevalent for the past few days.
Meteorological officials said Nungambakkam on Monday recorded a maximum temperature of 30.4 degree Celsius as against the average temperature of 31 degree Celsius.
Meenambakkam recorded 30 degree Celsius, two degree Celsius less than the average temperature. Both the areas had a trace of rainfall during the 12-hour period ending 8.30 p.m.
Drizzle in suburbs
The suburbs also received a drizzle during the day. Residents said that though it was not heavy, it kept the weather cool.
The Metrological department forecasts a generally cloudy sky and the possibility of rain in some areas of the city for the next two days. The maximum temperature would be around 31 degree Celsius on Tuesday.
