NEW DELHI: Security at the Chinese Embassy here has been stepped up in view of protests and rallies planned by Tibetans for Tuesday to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the uprising in Tibet. Under the aegis of several organisations, the Tibetans plan to hold demonstrations and hunger-strikes, and take out marches in different parts of the capital. Based on intelligence inputs that the protesters might try to target the Chinese Embassy at Chanakyapuri in small groups as they did in the past, more security personnel have been deployed in the area. Additional Police Control Room vans will be deployed around the Embassy on Tuesday. Plainclothesmen have been deployed to keep a close watch on the protesters. “We are taking all necessary precautions to ensure that the protests and demonstrations are carried out peacefully,” said a police officer. About a year ago, some Tibetan protesters forced their way into the Embassy premises after breaking the security cordon.
