Welcoming the spring: College girls celebrating Holi in Bangalore on Tuesday. Bangalore: People of Bangalore celebrated Holi on Tuesday with pomp and gaiety. They greeted one another by splashing colours. Global slowdown seems to have no impact on them as they are set to celebrate the festival of colours for the next 10 days. P. Santosh and his wife Saroop, said: “It is double whammy for us. On Valentine’s Day we did not come out as we were scared and felt insecure. But we see no threat to celebrate our traditional festival. We have purchased colours and sweets to celebrate the festival. We have also planned to go out for celebrations.” Davidson, who is from Delhi and serves in the Army, said: “Holi is very special for me. In the past three years, I celebrated Holi without my family. I am glad that my family is with me to celebrate Holi this time.” Poornima, a schoolteacher, said: “Exams are just round the corner and I don’t want my children to waste their time. It is better for them to concentrate on studies rather than go out for celebrations. I decided to celebrate Holi in a simple manner.” Business hitAbdul Ghani Khan, who sells colours in Ulsoor, said that the sale this year was lower when compared to last year where there were no examinations for schoolchildren then. Badri Prasad, shopkeeper, agreed with Mr. Khan and said that last year he sold more than 200 kg of herbal colours. But this time, he managed to sell only 150 kg.
