KOTTAYAM: The Crime Branch, which is investigating the conduct of a training camp organised by the Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) in December 2007, took two suspected participants to the site at Wagamon on Wednesday. P.A. Shibli alias Shibli Abdul Karim is a local man who belongs to Erattupetta while his alleged accomplice Hafiz Hussain alias Adnan was the main operative of the SIMI in Karnataka. The two, who were handed over to the Kerala Police by the Madhya Pradesh police on February 25, was kept at the special sub-jail here so far. The police on Wednesday produced the suspected SIMI operatives before the Kanjirappally First Class Magistrate Court before taking them to the camp site at Wagamon. The police team led by Crime Branch Dy.SP K.R. Kannan arrived at the spot by 2 p.m. and took the duo to various spots, including those where they had pitched the tent, the pond where they conducted training in swimming, the pine forest where they had held part of the training and other spots. Shibli is a trained computer engineer. Hussain was the chief of the SIMI operations in Karnataka when the training camp was conducted, the police sources said. The duo had played a crucial role in the conduct of the camp. Shibli was among the 13 leading SIMI operatives who were arrested from Indore on March 27 last.
