Poll panel asks banks to report unusual transactions
Special Correspondent
BANGALORE: In an attempt to check the distribution of cash to voters during the election campaign, the Election Commission has asked banks and financial institutions to inform it about any unusual transactions by party leaders.
The office of the Chief Electoral Officer here has also informed the Income Tax Department to step up monitoring to check excessive withdrawal of cash from banks and other financial institutions by party leaders. Unlike in the past, the commission has decided to complete the inquiry into seizure of cash within three days.
CEO M.N. Vidyashankar, who presided a meeting on Wednesday, said deputy commissioners of Excise Department would be held responsible for any illegal movement and transportation of liquor during campaign.
